Pterophyllum altumis one of the most highly prized fish in the aquarium hobby, and it’s easy to see why. With all the beauty and grace of a domestic angel, wrapped up in a larger, more regal package, what’s not to love? This is a delicate species and softened water can be considered a must, as well as a pH of 6 or less. Their large size also means a large aquarium should be considered; we would recommend at least a 90 gallon, but larger is better.
