The collared lizard is a strikingly colourful lizard native to the southwestern United States and parts of Mexico. It is named for the distinctive black bands, or “collars,” around its neck and shoulders. Males are especially vibrant, with bright blue or green bodies and yellow or orange heads, while females are generally duller in color. Collared lizards are known for their powerful hind legs, which allow them to run bipedally at high speeds.
